There is no universal number of hours for returning to every treated room. Re-entry depends on the product or method, treated surfaces, ventilation, people and animals. Use the written instructions for the actual job and call if any part is missing or unclear.
Confirm the instruction before leaving
The handover should name the room or zone, method, time treatment finished, who must remain out, ventilation steps and the condition that allows return. Ask separately about children, pregnancy, allergies, pets, aquariums and anyone needing continuous access to medicines or mobility equipment.
HSE says biocide labels can include restrictions during and after treatment, areas or items that must not be treated, protective measures and disposal instructions. The label must be followed. Smell, dryness or a generic website timetable cannot replace it.
If different rooms received different controls, request a zone-by-zone note. A closed bait station in a service cupboard and a treated bedroom surface do not share one re-entry rule.
Check before reopening the room
Use the stated time and conditions, then check that ventilation or other handover steps were completed by the responsible person. Keep children and animals away until the written restriction ends. Do not touch, wipe or cover devices and treated areas unless instructed.
If someone entered early, a pet reached a product, a spill occurred or anyone feels unwell, use the product and job details to contact the appropriate medical, veterinary or emergency route, then inform the provider. Do not guess at risk from an article.
Ask when ordinary cleaning resumes and which surfaces need special handling. Food-contact surfaces, bedding, toys and animal items need explicit instructions where relevant.
